UND and VCSU hold forum outlining plans for artificial intelligence – InForum

FARGO – Local universities are discussing their plans to keep up with the growing use of artificial intelligence programs next school year.

Representatives from Valley City State University and the University of North Dakota held a forum through the North Dakota University System on Tuesday, May 14, to discuss lessons learned from the 2023-2024 school year.

Valley City State representatives say they are putting together materials to help new students use AI programs positively.

“We want to help our freshmen during orientation. If they haven’t used AI, we want to help them get involved so they’re on a level playing field,” said Joe Tykwinski, Valley City State University’s chief information officer. .

For UND, student feedback indicated they want clear guidance on using AI for courses.

“Advocating transparency about why AI should or should not be used for certain assignments or activities will really help students understand and make good decisions about what is appropriate,” said Anna Kinney, coordinator of the UND Writing Program.

The next North Dakota University System meeting on AI will be in July.
